I would love to tell you that I was “born with the gift of hairbraiding,” but that is not true.
I did not grow up with someone braiding my hair everyday, but I was blessed to start Rapunzel’s hairbraiding with my sister in 1997.
We learned with each other, and all of a sudden we had a shared language about “lacing a braid, skipping a stitch, and twisting a row” and new creations were made everyday.
This is actually one of the things I love about braiding 25 years later.
EVERYDAY I braid I figure out a new idea or learn an idea from one of The Hairbraiders.
As a teacher (in my heart and in my trade), I have a gift of teaching people how to braid.
When someone doesn’t understand one technique I reframe it and we try again.
Braiding is like any skill.It can be taught and learned as long as you are willing to put in the work (practice).
And yes, some of the people I teach “have the gift”, but just as many (like me) started as a blank slate and learned a life changing skill set.
Over those years, I have shared my knowledge with thousands of people with tricks and tips for their own hair and I have taught hundreds of special people who have become a part of our team, The Hairbraiders.
Now, I am here to share with you everything I know about the art of hairbraiding!
